278 ACR Receives Mobilization Order

Nashville, TN – Major General Gus Hargett, the Adjutant General, today announced that the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, headquartered in Knoxville, is being mobilized as a result of the Presidential declaration on September 14, 2004.

The 278th ACR is the largest unit in the Tennessee Army National Guard, with units stretching from Bristol to Jackson.

The units will mobilize at their home stations in a phased process from 7 June 2004 to 26 June 2004," stated Randy Harris, Joint Public Affairs Director for the Tennessee Military Department. Within a few days of their mobilization date they will move to their mobilization site at Camp Shelby, MS.

This latest mobilization will bring the number of Tennessee Army and Air National Guard currently serving on active duty to 3,799.

278 ACR Settles Into Camp Shelby

Camp Shelby, Miss. – As the last units arrive at this southern Mississippi army post, more than 3,000 Tennessee Army National Guard members from the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment begin to settle into the heat and humidity of Camp Shelby.

Tennessee units began arriving on June 14th and will continue through June 29th. After in-processing, the soldiers begin a rigorous training regiment to include weapons familiarization and qualification, Military Operation in Urban Terrain (MOUT), and security training in addition to conducting other tactical and operational missions and scenarios.

The Regiment will remain at Camp Shelby for approximately 3 months, before moving to the National Training Center in Ft. Irwin, Calif. for additional training before departing for their duty location.

Currently Tennessee has over 3,600 National Guard men and women deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Noble Eagle and Iraqi Freedom.

Troop N, 4/278th ACR Is Being Mobilized

Nashville, Tenn – Major General Gus Hargett, Tennessee’s Adjutant General, today announced that Troop N, 4/278 Armored Cavalry Regiment, headquartered in Smyrna, is being mobilized as a result of the Presidential declaration on September 14, 2001.

Troop N is a UH-60 Blackhawk medium lift company, with responsibilities including troop movement, transportation of supplies, air assault operations and possible medical evacuation. This mobilization includes thirty-five soldiers and 8 UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters.

“The unit will mobilize at their home station on August 9 and 10, 2004,” stated Randy Harris, Joint Public Affairs Director for the Tennessee Military Department. “They are scheduled to move to their mobilization site at Fort Bragg, NC on August 12 and 13, 2004.”

This latest mobilization will bring the number of Tennessee Army and Air National Guard currently serving on active duty to 3,746.
